'Leveraging Grievances to Maintain Peace and Development' with DCAF & the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Ombuds institutions can serve as a “thermometer of society” as they handle immense amounts of data concerning the governance of the security sector. This panel discusses how this data can be used to proactively identify “hotspots” within society and to measure progress in implementing the SDGs more generally.

This session featured panelists Catalina Crespo (National Ombudswoman of Costa Rica), Florence Kajuju (Chairperson of the Commission on Administrative Justice and Secretary-General of African Ombudsman and Mediators Association), Reinier van Zutphen (National Ombudsman of the Netherlands), Hans Born (Assistant Director and Head of the Policy and Research Division at the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance), Alexandra Preperier (Research Assistant at the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance) and Lex Gerts (Deputy Director of the Directorate for Stability and Humanitarian Affairs, Dutch MFA).
